Overall
Aldon Smith is a fantastic athlete, and very talented player, but he is still very raw and probably isn't ready to be a big time contributor in his first year in the league, and also has a chance of being a bust. Smith flashed his talent in the 2009 season, as he had a monster redshirt freshman year with 11.5 sacks, and likely would have put up bigger numbers in his sophomore year, but he was hampered by a high ankle sprain that he played through. In Missouri's big win over #1 Oklahoma, we all saw how good he could be as he was dominant, showing his ability to play both defensive end in the 4-3 or rush linebacker in the 3-4. Although he can play DE in a four man front he is going to need to add some bulk to his slender frame and improve against the run, as well as adding some more pass rushing moves. His best position in the NFL will likely be the rush linebacker spot in a 3-4 defense. There he can use his speed, quickness and overall athletic ability to rush the quarterback and drop into coverage. Aldon Smith is still raw but has a ton of upside, but does have a chance of being a bust. Since pass rushers are at a premium so he'll definitely be a first rounder. He could go as high as #11 to Houston and will not last into the Twenties.
