Pros

Cons

Overall

Ben Tate really started to shoot up draft boards recently after having a terrific senior campaign, and then following it up with great numbers at the combine and his pro-day. Tate runs a 4.43 40, so he has the breakaway speed, combined with good size that you want out of a running back, is a one cut runner, makes quick decisions and hits the hole hard. On the downside Ben Tate just doesn't break enough tackles, which is a problem from running backs. Often goes down on first contact, and is not a powerful runner. Maybe with N.F.L level strength and conditioning that will improve, but until he proves he can break more tackles, he is not capable of being an every down running back, but rather a solid depth guy who can get about 10 carries a game, and play a role in the passing attack. Solid well rounded player, but nothing special. Tate should get picked in the late 3rd to early 4th round.
