Overall
Brandon Thompson is one of the most under-appreciated, and overlooked players in this years draft, and I don't really know why. I don't think people have watched him enough to realize how good he is, and for whatever reason, he has just gone under the radar to a lot of people. Brandon Thompson gives you everything you want out of a Defensive Tackle. He is a terrific run stuffer, possessing great size and strength to push back blockers, anchors in well so as not to be moved off the line, and does a great job disengaging from his blocks to make a play on the ball, evidenced by his 77 tackles as a Senior. Not just a run stuffer, Thompson is a very good athlete who gets a great jump off the snap, firing out of his stance, and plays with an overall quickness to his game, allowing him to penetrate the pocket. He also has a great motor, will play until the whistle, is tough, and does not wear down easily. His size, and skill set also lend him to playing in a number of different positions, as he could play the 3 Technique, 5 Technique, and also Nose Tackle in certain schemes, like Wade Phillip's 3-4 scheme in Houston. His weaknesses are all things that can be coached at the next level. Hand placement, knee bend, and pass rushing technique are all things that can be improved on, potentially making him a dominant player. I think people will be surprised by how good an N.F.L player Brandon Thompson turns out to be!
