Gabe Carimi is a typical Big Ten offensive tackle: he’s big, strong, a dominant run blocker, and almost never gets overpowered. Carimi however is not in the same class as former Big Ten greats, Jake Long, and Joe Thomas. He just does not have the agility you need out of a left tackle, he struggles when the QB takes 5, or 7 step drops, and really struggles against speed rushers. He also needs to play with lower pad level, he gets too high, and plays with poor balance. But, a team looking for a boost in their run game, would be thrilled to immediately plug Carimi in at right tackle, and pave holes for their run game, while not being a liability in pass protection. He will be a solid starter at right tackle from day 1, and with some development and good coaching, he could develop into one of the best road graders in the league. He will be a late first round selection.
