Overall Grade: C-

1st Round, Pick #18: Corey Liuget (DE Illinois)

Here was another team that was looking for a 5 technique defensive end to fill a huge hole on their team. They were rumored to be very interested in Cam Jordan, who we consider to be one of the best 5 techniques in the draft. However, instead of selecting the proven 3-4 defensive end, the Chargers went with Corey Liuget. Corey Liuget is a talented player, but is more suited to play in the 4-3 one gap system. But the Chargers must have felt that Liuget was a better value than Jordan and went with the younger player. But we don't necessarily agree.

Grade- C+

2nd Round, Pick #50: Marcus Gilchrist (CB/S Clemson)

This is not a bad pick, but I'm not in love with it either. Marcus Gilchrist is going to be a very solid starter at Safety for the Chargers, but never anything more than that. He is just limited athletically, and doesn't really do any 1 thing well. He is a smart, well rounded player who will probably start from day 1, but at pick #50, I'm looking for a little bit more upside out of my selections. I'm not going to knock them for this, but it is definitely not what I would have done.

Grade- C

2nd Round, Pick #61: Jonas Mouton (LB Michigan)

When I first saw this pick come across the screen, I laughed out loud for about 5 minutes, what a joke and an embarrassment. I personally am a Michigan fan, and I know just how bad Jonas Mouton really is. He has mastered the art of missing tackles, takes terrible angles to the football, is always out of position, gets stonewalled at the POA on a regular basis, and really is bad at everything. I was saying to fellow Michigan fans who asked about Mouton that I wouldn't even draft him as Mr. Irrelevant, so for him to get picked at pick #61 is a travesty. I'm going back and forth between which one is the worse pick, this, or Cam Newton at #1, but either way, its a true disaster.

Grade- F

3rd Round, Pick #82: Vincent Brown (WR San Diego State)

Very solid selection by the Chargers here as they are getting a very polished receiver who will be an impact starter from day 1. Vincent Jackson's situation is very fluid and he could be shipped out of town, but even if they do have him, they have nobody capable of starting opposite him. Vincent Brown is an excellent route runner, has very good hands, and really does everything well. I think he will do better as a slot receiver, working the middle, but he will be very solid as #2 receiver, who reminds me of Bills receiver Stevie Johnson.

Grade- B+

3rd Round, Pick #89: Shareece Wright (CB U.S.C)

Shareece Wright has had a very up-and-down career at U.S.C. He was a big time recruit coming out of High School, he was stashed behind a ton of talent his first 2 years, then after starting the first 2 games as a Junior, he suffered a hairline fracture in his neck and missed the rest of the season. Then in his Redshirt Junior season he never was academically eligible, and missed all of that season too. Finally this past year he saw consistent playing time, he was rusty early on, but started to look very good as the season progressed. There is a lot of unknown with Wright because we haven't seen that much of him, he does have the talent, but he does come with a good deal of risk.

Grade- B

6th Round, Pick #183: Jordan Todman (RB Connecticut)

Excellent pickup by the Chargers in the 6th round of the draft, as I think it is pretty dumb that he fell this far solely because of his height. He is only 5-9, but has produced at a very high level in college, rushing for over 1,600 yards last season. Although he is short, he is a tough runner, can break tackles, and on top of that, he runs a 4.44 40. Despite what some think, Ryan Matthews is not capable of holding down a backfield by himself, and Jordan Todman makes the Chargers backfield very stable.

Grade- A

6th Round, Pick #201: Steve Schilling (Guard Michigan)

San Diego picked up the only 2 Michigan Wolverines in the draft, and they got the better one, 140 picks later than they got the first. Steve Schilling is not the next Steve Hutchinson, but I think he can be a solid starter in the league, and a good depth guy at the very least. He's very well rounded, with good size, strength, and athleticism. Good value, and good pick in the late stages of the draft.

Grade- B+

Andrew Gachkar

7th Round, Pick #234: Andrew Gachkar (OLB Missouri)

Clearly a special teams selection here. Andrew Gachkar was an average starter at Missouri, but has good instincts, a good motor, and can make some tackles. He will never be an effective starter, and his only chance to make the roster is on special teams. Even though its the 7th round, the Chargers could definitely have gotten a better player.

Grade- D-
