Make sure you preface your reaction to this bombshell by noting that this is just in preliminary discussions. But WOW! What an impact this would have on college football, it doesn't make a ton of sense geographically though, but when it comes to money, it makes all the sense in the world.

It would be a big get, but I don't think Texas has anything to gain by going to the Big 10. Travel costs would go up and the money they get in the Big 12 would be pretty similar.

If the Big 10 expands to 12 teams, the school most likely to go is Missouri. They fit geographically, plus they already have some built in rivals with Illinois. Plus they would bring the St. Louis and Kansas City market to the Big 10 which is what the conference is looking for.

Another interesting note is that Colorado might be going to the Pac 10 with Utah. That would leave the Big 12 scrambling. The Big 12 North would lose both Missouri and Colorado. Boise State, TCU, Arkansas have all been rumored to be fill ins. However if the Big 10 expands past 12 then I wouldn't be surprised if Missouri and Nebraska make that move.

It will be interesting.

This would be just insane if it actually happened, if Texas did leave the Big-12 for the Big-10, I would have to imagine they would bring their Big-12 rivals with them, namely, Oklahoma, A&M, Missouri and then who would want to join this mega conference, which would lead to the old big-12 being useless with many of their big dogs now gone, Next I could see them calling up the Pac-10 and collaborating, and then the eastern schools doing the same, and would lead to a college football landscape with just 4 mega conferences, a north, south, east, and west conference each with 20 teams. Then would pave the way for a playoff, a FINAL FOUR if you would, each conference winner gets in and they play for it all. Of course this is just speculation by me, and mostly a pipedream as a Michigan and Big-10 fan. I'm just going to dream here and have some fun, here is what the new conferences would look like according to my COMPLETELY ERRONEOUS idea.

North-

East Division
Michigan-Ohio State-Michigan State-Penn State-Pittsburgh-Illinois-Purdue-Indiana-Northwestern-Cincinnati
West Division-
Texas-Oklahoma-Missouri-Texas A&M-Iowa State-Iowa-Minnesota-Wisconsin-Oklahoma State-Houston-Colorado

West-

North-Oregon-Oregon State-Washington-Washington State-Stanford-Boise-Nevada-Nebraska-Utah-BYU
South-Arizona-Arizona State-California-USC-UCLA-Nebraska-Baylor-Texas Tech

South-

West-Alabama-Arkansas-Auburn-LSU-Mississippi-Mississippi State-Lousiville-Virginia-Virginia Tech-West Virginia
East-Florida-Florida State-Georgia-Georgia Tech-South Florida-Tennessee-Vanderbilt-South Carolina-Kentucky

East-

North-Boston College-Maryland-Uconn-Rutgers-Syracuse-Miami (OH)-Notre Dame-Marshall
South-Duke-North Carolina-NC State-Clemson-Wake Forest-Central Florida-Memphis-East Carolina

Seems awesome to me,What do you think?

That would make it easier for a playoff. Although the thing that I would change is not naming the divisons on directions. A little confusing to have the North Division in the East Conference. Maybe the East Conference would have the Atlantic Divison and the other would be the Sun Belt?????

Looks like my projected Super Conference idea wasn't too far off. I think with Nebraska leaving for the Big 10 and Colorado for the Pac-10 the Big 12 will totally disband, and this is what I think will happen to the remnants. I think Texas, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State, Kansas, and Texas A&M will join Colorado in the Pac-10. The Pac-10 has been wanting to expand for a long time now, and this is the perfect opportunity, they have the money, and adding those 3 schools would be huge. Then I think Missouri will leave for the Big 10, it's just a matter of time, then the rest of the Schools, Tech, Baylor, Kansas and Iowa State will just get left behind and forced to join Conference USA or the Mountain West. Then I think the Big 10 will also pick up Pittsburgh, and that will start the collapse of the Big East, Rutgers may get picked up by the Big 10, but otherwise West Virginia is the only other school that may join a major conference which would be the ACC. So what I see happening will be 4 14-16 team conferences and that will in turn set up the biggest Cash Cow of all time, The NCAA Football Final 4. You got conference championship week, where the 2 division winners play for a shot in the Final Four, then you get the Semi Finals, and then the first true National Championship game. Reason it will happen.... Money! Can you imagine how much money would be made from that postseason. The scene of the college football landscape is changing, and we will have to start getting used to some new things. It's going to happen!

I wouldn't be too sure about Missouri going to the Big 10. Seems like the Big 10 lost some interest in the Tigers. Also in your prediction you mentioned Kansas going to the Pac-10. That won't happen. The Texas Legislature won't let Texas and Texas A&M go to another conference without Texas Tech. So if any Big 12 schools go to the Pac-10 its Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and Colorado (who has already left the Big 12). Kansas, Kansas State would either go to the Big East (that would be a huge travel budget) or join the Moutain West with Boise State and maybe another couple schools like Nevada and Fresno State. This would probably make the Moutain West an BCS conference then with TCU, Utah, Boise, Kansas, KState, and BYU as the powers. It would probably be a better conference then the Big East.

Iowa State and Baylor are probably to two schools that are going to get screwed the most. Look for them to join Conference USA.

What a crazy few days in College Football, although we saw it coming for a long time. Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech are the latest to bolt the Big-12 for the Pac-10. That brings the Pac-10 to 15 team I believe, and I'm sure they will get a 16th, look for the Big-10 to respond in kinda, and then the biggest dominoe will fall, which will be Notre Dame finally joining the Big-10

During a press conference at the University of Nebraska, Big 10 commish Jim Daleney said they had to intentions to moving to 16. But I found it interesting that Notre Dame said that they could no longer play Navy at Yankee Stadium. The reason? It didn't fit within their schedule......hmmmm too bad it was already on their schedule. Does that mean that their schedule is going to be involved in some conference games?????? Maybe they will be the 13th member of the Big 10 and either Syracuse or Rutgers will be #14 and they will stop there. Its going to be interesting. Oh and look for the Big 10 to keep the Big 10 name. Deleney said that during the press conference too.

Notre Dame will join the Big 10 because, as I've said all along there will be 4 16 team conferences, with schedules made up almost exclusively of Conference Games, which mean Notre Dame will be able to play nobody from the 4 major conferences, leaving them to play the likes of Nevada, Tulsa, Uab and the rest. This whole reshuffle was a plan all along as a way for the Big 10 to force Notre Dames hand, joining will soon be their only option
