Overall
Like so many Offensive and Defensive Line prospects, a lot of Jerel Worthy's issues could be worked out by playing with better pad level. Jerel Worthy will dominate games for stretches, and be totally unblockable, but then there will be other stretches where he disappears. Worthy is an exceptional athlete for his size, at 6-3 310 he is massive, but explodes off the line, playing with an overall quickness and suddenness to his game, with the ability to shoot the gap and penetrate. The problem with him though, is that occasionally he plays much too upright, and Offensive Lineman can get under his pads, thus moving him off the line too easily. He also focuses on pass rushing too often, quickly getting up-field, but then losing his gap. I think Worthy relies too much on his athleticism, and I believe Worthy could be much improved with some NFL Level coaching, teaching him how to create proper leverage, anchor in, and play lower than the opposition. I really don't want to sound like I'm bashing Worthy, because even with his flaws, he still has proven to be a fantastic player who I'd love to have on my team. I just feel that he is a bit underachiever, and I think he has the potential to be a lot better than he is. Because he doesn't stop the run consistently as well as you would like, he is only a fit in a 4-3 currently. Worthy has a huge upside, and should not last very long into the 2nd round.
