Malik Hooker Scouting Report

S Malik Hooker, 6’1’’ 206 Ohio State

What He Does Well:

Loose athlete with the twitch necessary to change directions quickly and with ease. Great instincts and high football IQ, rarely out of position. Shows excellent range and plays with great anticipation as a deep safety. His exceptional ball skills set him apart from others in this class. Attacks the ball, will go up and get it. Plays with great concentration and body control in the air which allows him to make some circus type interceptions.

Where He Needs Work:

Just one year of starting experience, still a bit raw. Questionable long speed on tape. Can get too handsy at times in coverage. Still growing into his frame. Not overly physical especially against the run. Tackling needs quite a bit of work, far too many arm tackle attempts. Takes some questionable angles in pursuit. Currently rehabbing from surgery to repair a torn labrum and hernia.

Outlook:

Hooker burst on to the scene this last season with a huge game against Bowling Green where he brought in two insane interceptions. He continued his accent enroute to All-American status and tied for second in the nation with seven interceptions. Hooker may need some seasoning to make up for his lack of experience and tackling deficiencies but his ball skills make him a special player. Expect him to be a top ten pick in the upcoming draft and to wow fans with his ball skills for years to come.
