Mathews unlike some of the other top backs in the draft, has the size and bulk, to be a feature back at the next level. Has good height and weight, plays with low pad level, and has breakaway speed. An extremely productive player in college, averaged 6 yards per carry in , and was the second leading rusher in the nation last season despite missing 2 games. His biggest strength is his vision and his ability to make one cut and explode through the hole. On the downside, he doesn't have nearly the agility or elusiveness, that Jahvid Best or C.J Spiller have. He is only a 2 down back, as he struggles picking up the blitz, and drops a lot of passes. He would be a great fit in a zone blocking system. He has the ability to carry the ball 20+ times a game, and also would be a good compliment as an inside runner, to a teams outside the tackles runner. Likely landing spots include #20 to Houston and, #28 to San Diego.
