Pros

Cons

Overall

There hasn't been an offensive lineman the caliber of Matt Kalil to come out since Jake Long in 2008. Tyron Smith was the first OT taken in last year's draft and he had to play RT in college because Kalil was on the same team. Matt Kalil has everything an NFL team would want out of a Left Tackle prospect. He has the ideal size, and long arms needed to succeed at the NFL level. Kalil is also a very good athlete which will help him against the speed rushers in the NFL. He can use his quick, agile feet to cut off rushers, and then use his superior upper body strength, and long arms to stop them dead in their tracks. The only thing that worries me about Kalil is that he is a little on the light side, and isn't a stout run blocker. He isn't going to overpower many defenders when run blocking. However, the NFL is a passing league now and LT's aren't necessary asked to lead the way for RB's as much as they used to. Their main focus is protecting the QB's blindside, and Kalil will be very good at that for a long time.
