2010 NFL Mock Draft- Round 2

Updated: April 22nd

#33) St Louis Rams- Kareem Jackson (CB Alabama)
St. Louis has repeatedly missed on highly drafted cornerbacks, and currently have zero depth at the position. Kareem Jackson offers great value here as a very physical corner, who is very N.F.L ready.
#34) Detroit Lions- Jahvid Best (RB California)
Detroit has done a nice job filling their holes on defense in free agency and selecting Suh number 2 overall and now are in a position to finally add some firepower to a rushing attack that struggled mightily last season even before Kevin Smith went down with a torn ACL. Best is the fastest and most explosive running back in this years draft, averaging 7.2 yards per carry in his college career. He will be a nice weapon in a young Lions team that is starting to take shape.
#35) Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Demaryius Thomas (WR Georgia Tech)
Tampa gets franchise QB Josh Freeman a new toy in Demaryius Thomas. The 6-3 Thomas, has great size and runs a 4.4 40. He could very likely wind up going in the first round, but if available here fills a big need for a playmaking wide receiver. Possibly the biggest upside of any receiver in the draft.
#36) Kansas City Chiefs- Jermaine Gresham (TE Oklahoma)
Matt Cassell is in desperate need of some help on offense, and he would be ecstatic if Gresham fell to them here in the second round. Gresham is coming off a knee injury that forced him to miss his senior season, but when healthy he is the complete package at tight end, excellent route runner, soft hands, and if a very good blocker. Great pick for the Chiefs.
#37) Philadelphia Eagles (From Washington)- Carlos Dunlap (DE Florida)
Philadelphia's defense was ravaged by injuries early on last season, and they were never able to recover as their replacements were run over in the last 2 games of the season against the Cowboys. Carlos Dunlap is in my opinion the second best 4-3 DE in the draft, and is a steal here in the second.
#38) Cleveland Browns- Colt McCoy (QB Texas)
This pick seems to be a lock, with Holmgren and the rest of the Cleveland brass totally in love with Colt McCoy. They do have a need for Quarterback, but I definitely feel they would be better served to wait, as Colt McCoy is nowhere near ready to be an N.F.L quarterback, and is questionable that he will ever be.
#39) Oakland Raiders- Patrick Robinson (CB Florida State)
Oakland filled one of their biggest needs by trading for Browns pass rusher Kamerion Wimbley. They now move on to their second biggest need, finding someone to man the other cornerback position, as opposing teams have realized that there is no reason to throw on Nnamdi Asomugha side of the field. Robinson is a fast physical corner, who has the potential to be a lock down corner if he can fix a few minor issues in his game.
#40) San Diego Chargers (From Seattle)- Jonathan Dwyer (RB Georgia Tech)
With L.T gone the Chargers are in dire need of a running back, as Darren Sproles is not capable of being an every down back. Dwyer is a power runner who would be an excellent compliment to Sproles, and could make a dynamic speed, and power combo in the Chargers backfield.
#41) Buffalo Bills- Tim Tebow (QB Florida)
After passing on Clausen in the first round, the Bills are going to need to bring somebody young in to push the guys they currently have, and possibly step in if/when they falter. This pick also makes sense from as business standpoint as Tebow will generate a lot of buzz for the ailing Buffalo franchise.
#42) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Via Chicago)- Everson Griffen (DE U.S.C)
After taking pass rushing DT Gerald McCoy in the first round, Tampa continues to build up one of the most talent lacking defensive lines in the league. Griffen is an outstanding athlete, who is pretty raw, but has the potential to be a top level speed rusher in the N.F.L
#43) Denver Broncos (From Miami)- Arrelious Benn (WR Illinois)
Denver gets this pick in the Brandon Marshall trade, and surely enough it turns out to be his replacement. The 6 foot 1 Benn looks the part of a number 1 wide receiver, and has as much talent as any receiver in this draft. His stock was derailed by a dreadful Senior season, which can be mostly tied to terrible QB play.
#44) New England Patriots (Via Jacksonville)- Alex Carrington (DE Arkansas State)
New England continues to beef up their front 7 by adding underrated Alex Carrington. At 6-5 284 Carrington is very versatile, but has an ideal skill set to play the 5 technique in that 3-4,
#45) Denver Broncos- Brandon Spikes (ILB Florida)
Denver is in desperate need of inside linebackers in their 3-4 defense, they need one so bad that they reach for Brandon Spikes here. Spikes is slow (5.02), but outside of that he is a terrific inside linebacker who could have his speed masked playing inside a 3-4
#46) New York Giants- Daryl Washington (ILB T.C.U)
The Giants recently cut their longtime middle linebacker and QB of their defense Antonio Pierce, they find his replacement here in T.C.U linebacker Daryl Washington. Little bit under the radar, Washington is an underrated talent, does everything well, good in coverage, has good sideline-to-sideline speed, and offers great support against the run. Well rounded linebacker with tremendous upside. Should be patrolling the middle of that defense for a ling time.
#47) New England Patriots (Via Tennessee)- Damian Williams (WR U.S.C)
With Wes Welker going down at the end of last season, and Randy Moss possibly playing his final season as a Patriot, Damian Williams is a perfect fit in New England's offense as the best route runner in the draft, and somebody who can work the middle of the field.
#48) Carolina Panthers- Mardy Gilyard (WR Cincinnati)
Carolina will take one last shot at a playoff run with their current core this season, and Mardy Gilyard will be able to step in and instantly add some firepower to a dreadful passing attack last year. An explosive player who has the speed to stretch the field and draw coverage away from Steve Smith, and be another weapon for their offense. Also adds value as a return man.
#49) San Francisco 49ers- Dexter McCluster (RB Mississippi)
San Fran' found 2 starters in the first round with Mike Iupati and Earl Thomas, they are in a position of luxury here and can afford to pull the trigger on Dexter McCluster. He would be a Reggie Bush type weapon on offense, catch passes, return kicks, and be able to take some of the load off Frank Gore.
#50) Kansas City Chiefs (Via Atlanta)- Cam Thomas (NT North Carolina)
Kansas City needs somebody to anchor their 3-4 defense, and thankfully for them Cam Thomas is still on the board. Thomas underachieved playing in a 4-3 defense in college, but at 6-3 330, he has the perfect skill set to be a space eater up front for K.C
#51) Houston Texans- Perrish Cox (CB Oklahoma State)
After losing starting corner Dunta Robinson in free agency, the Texans are left with just a little bit more than nothing in their secondary. Perrish Cox is the best corner left on the board, his play is a little inconsistent, but when he plays up to his capabilities has the ability to shut down an opposing teams number 1 receiver.
#52) Pittsburgh Steelers- Golden Tate (WR Notre Dame)
With the departure of Santonio Holmes the Steelers now have a huge need at wide receiver, and thankfully for them Golden Tate is still on the board. Definitely a steal here late in the second round, Tate is a do everything receiver, can return kicks, punts, be line up out of the slot, and best of all, no character issues!
#53) New England Patriots- Donald Butler (ILB Washington)
After winning Defensive R.O.Y 2 years ago, Jerod Mayo struggled through his sophomore season, partly due to the fact that he had very little help from the rest of his fellow linebackers. But after adding DE/OLB Brandon Graham in round 1 and fast riser Donald Butler here in the second, the Pats have quickly reloaded on defense.
#54) Cincinnati Bengals- Nate Allen (Safety South Florida)
After passing up their biggest need for a safety at 21 when Dez Bryant fell into their laps, they must address it here in the second. Nate Allen offers great value here, as a well rounded safety and someone who can start for them as a rookie
#55) Philadelphia Eagles- Vladimir Ducasse (Massachusetts)
Philadelphia was weak on the interior offensive line even before they cut former Pro-Bowler Shawn Andrews, so they need to address the issue with one of their early picks. Ducasse will be making the switch from tackle in college to guard at the next level, but this mauler at 6-4 330, should have no problem doing so.
#56) Green Bay Packers- Ricky Sapp (DE/OLB Clemson)
Ricky Sapp is a steal here at #56 for Green Bay. One of the most athletic pass rushers in the draft, with a high upside, will make a great fit opposite Rookie standout Clay Matthews
#57) Baltimore Ravens- Myron Lewis (CB Vanderbilt)
Baltimore really has only 2 needs, the 5 technique which they addressed in round 1 with Jared Odrick, and Cornerback. Myron Lewis is a very underrated player in my opinion, 6 foot 2 he is a big physical corner, who has the speed and athleticism to be a shutdown cornerback at the next level.
#58) Arizona Cardinals- Rodger Saffold (Tackle Indiana)
After addressing their biggest need to replace Carlos Dansby, they can move onto what is probably their second biggest need, and offense tackle. Current tackle Mike Gandy has proved to be old and ineffective and needs to be replaced, Saffold is a great value here and will likely be the pick if available.
#59) Dallas Cowboys- Tyson Alualu (DT/DE California)
Dallas has very few holes on their roster and will be looking for players that can help them immediately. After taking ball hawk safety Chad Jones in the first, they are able to add some depth on their defensive line with 5 technique player Tyson Alualu Alualu played both DT, and DE at California but is best suited to play outside in a 3-4
#60) Seattle Seahawks (From San Diego)- Montario Hardesty (RB Tennessee)
If Seattle does decide to pass on C.J Spiller with both first round picks as we have them projected to do, Montario Hardesty is not a bad plan B. Hardesty is a physical, slashing type running back who makes one cut and burst through the hole. Would be a nice compliment to smaller RB Justin Forsett
#61) New York Jets- Chad Jones (Safety L.S.U)
After trading away safety Kerry Rhodes, the Jets are very thin at safety. Chad Jones is a very underrated prospect in my opinion, and will wind up being a steal here. He is a ball-hawking safety, a missile to the football, and a knack for making big plays.
#62) Minnesota Vikings- Chris Cook (CB Virginia)
After passing on a corner at the back end of round 1 for Jimmy Clausen, cornerback still is a need they would like to address. The 6 foot 2 Chris Cook has been a workout warrior this offseason and has really raised his draft stock.
#63) Indianapolis Colts- Navorro Bowman (OLB Penn State)
Indy could go offensive line here, but there really isn't anybody left that is worth the pick, so we have them moving on to BPA on defense as well. Bowman is a great value here as somebody who could can make an impact immediately.
#64) New Orleans Saints- Morgan Burnett (Safety Georgia Tech)
New Orleans has a need at safety whether Darren Sharper returns or not. If he doesn't return than they lack the most vital player to their defensive resurgance last season, and even if he does return, he only has a couple years left anyway. Morgan Burnett is an interception machine, and could be the next Darren Sharper.
