Overall
Quinton Carter profiles as an "In the Box" safety who is excellent in run support and is a tackling machine, but he is very inconsistent in pass coverage, which definitely knocks his draft stock. He is very effective in his role as somebody who attacks everything underneath, will make tackles at the line of scrimmage, and drop the hammer regularly on receivers who run over the middle. The question with Carter will be if he can improve enough in coverage to not be a liability. His 40 time at the Combine was 4.62, which obviously is bad for a defensive back, and he also seems to be very stiff in the hips, and has a tough time turning and running with receivers. He will never be great in pass coverage, but he needs to just be average, so as not to be a liability. If he can add some coverage skills to his run stopping skills, he could be a 100+ tackle a season guy, but if he doesn't he will be nothing more than a special teams player.
