Pros

Cons

Overall

Robert Sands is a very unique talent who has the feel of a "Boom-or-Bust" type prospect. When you first see Sands, you can't help but be impressed by his pure athleticism. His towering height, combined with his speed, and ability to attack the football really give off the impression of a dominant safety prospect. And while Sands has shown flashes of being a dominant safety, he has been very inconsistent in his career, and is far from being a finished product. Once again as I have stated with so many prospects, a lot of his issues would be solved by playing "Lower". He gets too high in his back pedal, and has a tough time turning and transitioning into sprinting with receivers, which combined with his tall frame makes it difficult for him in man coverage. Sands is very good when allowed to free-lance in zone coverage, where he can use his exceptional instincts, to diagnose plays, attack underneath, and also use his ball skills to knock down passes over the top. Sands has a very high upside, and with some coaching and development, could develop into a very productive ball hawking safety.
