Overall
Roy Helu got ever body's attention with a very impressive combine, where he ran a 4.42 40, and finished towards the top in most other categories for running backs. Helu isn't very flashy, but he is an effective, productive runner, who does all the little things (blitz pickup) that you like in a back. He is a prototypical one cut running back, who is going to find the hole and hit it with authority. He doesn't have all-world speed, but has the ability to hit the home run at any moment. That was evident in the game against Missouri where he had 307 yards, and 3 touchdowns of over 50 yards. The downside to Roy Helu is that even though he has great size, he doesn't do well in short yardage, or goal line situations. He also is not all that agile, and doesn't make anybody miss in the open field. Helu also has some durability issues. He hasn't missed many games but he was very limited at times because of shoulder, ankle, and hamstring problems. Helu best fits into an offense which has a zone blocking scheme where that can highlight his one cut and go style.
