Brandon Spikes falls under the category of a "Thumper". He is an aggressive player who offers great support against the run, is a sure tackler, often delivers big hits, and is always around the football. He plays the game with passion and intensity, is a leader on the football field, and is solid in coverage. On the downside a major concern with Spikes is his speed, he doesn't have great range or the ability to get from sideline-to-sideline quickly. He also takes bad angles to the football too often and thinks he is faster than he actually is. It is questionable whether he will be able to be a middle linebacker in a 4-3 defense with all the space he will have to cover. But overall Spikes is a good prospect who offers consistent play, leadership, and some playmaking ability on defense (4 career TD's). His game is comparable to Jets inside linebacker David Harris. Spikes is expected to get picked in the second round.
