Taylor Mays has the talent to follow in the tracks of fellow U.S.C. safeties Ronnie Lott and Troy Polamalu. He has tremendous speed and agility, can range sideline to sideline faster than anybody, is a missile to the football, delivers huge hits on the ball, and has good positioning in the run game. With all the things that he does extremely well, he does just as many things extremely poorly. Takes terrible angles to the football against the run and the pass, does not have good instincts at all, over aggressive all too often, and has awful tackling technique at times. It just looks like the game has never slowed down for him, despite being a 4 year starter. He needs some serious coaching up at the next level, but if he learn the things he needs to learn and implement them into his game, he has the talent to be an elite safety ball hawking safety in the NFL. He is a boom or bust draft pick, who based on potential could be a top-15 pick, but as a complete player could fall into the second round. Mays is not NFL ready, but his tremendous upside will have a team spending a high pick on him.
