Pros

• Awesome size, 6 foot 8, and nowhere near overweight
• Great athlete, quick feet, quick out of stance, slides extremely well for his size
• Very good footwork, mirrors his defender well, and doesn't have issues with speed
• Impressive upper body strength, putting up 32 reps of 225 at the combine
• Comfortable in space, does a good job getting into the second level
• Frame has room to be maxed out
• Tremendous potential, has possibly the best combination of size and athleticism of tackle in the draft

Cons

• Moving from Division 2, to the N.F.L will be a major learning curve
• Believe it or not, could stand to add a few pounds and bulk up
• Not overly aggressive, doesn't' attack defenders, relied on his size and athleticism in college
• Probably won't have an impact early on in his career
• Plays too high

Overall

Jared Veldheer is a very intriguing prospect out of Hillsdale College in Michigan. At 6 foot 8 he has very rare height, and at 312 LBS he has reasonable weight, but believe it or not he would be best served to add a few pounds and max out his frame. He also has tremendous athleticism, a former tight end, he has very quick feet, moves laterally very well, and overall does an excellent job mirroring, and staying in front of his defender. Obviously the step up from Division 2 to the N.F.L will be difficult, he definitely will need some coaching and experience to fine tune his technique, and football IQ. If he can successfully take the leap he has a real chance to be a special left tackle in the Pros. Veldheer is without a doubt a project, and teams looking for immediate help at left tackle won't pick him early, but someone will definitely pull the trigger on him in the second or third round based on his potential to become a dominant left tackle
