Wednesdays Watchers

This weeks edition of the Watchers gives you an update as to helped their draft stock out the most, and who did the most damage after the very important Senior Bowl.

1

Mike Iupati- Guard Idaho

Anybody who wasn't familiar with "Big Mike" surely is now after a fantastic week at the senior bowl. Lions OC Scott Linehan called him the best player there, and that sentiment was echoed by many who were in attendance. Iupati has an NFL ready body at 6-6 330, he has extraordinary athleticism for his size, quick feet, and plays nasty. He is the best guard prospect to come out since Steve Hutchinson out of Michigan. He just needs to polish up on some technique and it is only a matter of time until he is a pro-bowler. No way he falls out of round 1 now.

2

Kyle Wilson- CB Boise State

Surprisingly the top 2 risers from the senior bowl were both from the state of Idaho. Boise Cornerback Kyle Wilson dispelled a lot of questions about his size (5-10) this week, he had an excellent week of practice, showing off his athleticism, ball skills, and was fundamentally sound. Played very well in the game too, played a big part in the south being able to accomplish nothing through the air. Solidified his position in my eyes as the number 2 corner in the draft.

3

Brandon Graham- DE/OLB Michigan

The MVP of the Game was utterly dominant and unblockable with 2 sacks and a forced fumble. He showed his ability to get penetration with his strength, and flashed some finesse pass moves to keep blockers on their heels. There are questions about his size as well (6-1), and he may not be an ideal fit with his hand on the ground in a 4-3, but the film doesn't lie, and when you turn the film of Graham on in college and once again in the Senior Bowl, he is consistently able to get pressure on the QB, and wreak havoc on backfields. He has locked himself into a first round selection.

4

Alex Carrington- DE Arkansas State

The biggest surprise star of Senior Bowl week was without question Arkansas State DE Alex Carrington. Carrington really saw his stock rise with an impressive, highly acclaimed week of practice. He is a big Defensive End at 6-5 285, very strong, and has good upper body strength, but also showed that he has the speed to get around the corner and pressure the QB, has quick feet and uses his hands well to blow past blockers. He could play as a 5-technique DE in a 3-4, such flexibility to play in that system or as a traditional 4-3 DE will add value to his stock, he is an all around solid prospect who should come off the board in round 2 or 3.

5

Sean Weatherspoon- OLB Missouri

Already was a household name with Scouts and Draftniks alike, but Weatherspoon really stated his case for being a top-15 pick after a good week of practice and a phenomenal performance in the game on Saturday, he was making tackles all over the field, and even intercepted a pass and brought it back for 57 yards. He showed off his impressive speed and athletic ability, and was consistent all week with his technique in coverage. Weatherspoon is the full package at OLB, and should be the second Linebacker off the board.

1

Tim Tebow- QB Florida

Tebow's struggles at the senior bowl were well documented, and he firmly entrenched the fact once and for all that he is not a Franchise QB. He struggled all week with pulling out from under center, his poor footwork, bad mechanics, and slow delivery were front and center for everybody to see. He was not even able to run the ball in the game (4 rushes- 4 Yards). He just does not get the ball out on time, doesn't throw a strong deep ball, and his ability to learn a pro-style offense is a major concern.

2

Javier Arenas- CB Alabama

Javier Arenas is a great athlete, and is probably the best punt/kick returner available in the draft, and can really fly, but probably isn't a high level prospect at cornerback. Size is an issue at only 5-9, and he doesn't play with very good technique, he was beat for a long touchdown by WR Mardy Gilyard, and all week showed he had a tough time getting his hips around, getting out of his back-pedal, and gets overpowered by big receivers. He still could end up being OK at the next level, but not the elite level Corner that some think of him as.

3

Vladimir Ducasse- Guard Massachusetts

Ducasse was a guy a lot of people wanted to get a look at, although he comes from UMASS he was not an unknown. He has great size at 6-5 330, and was dominant as a tackle in D-2, but whether he had the quickness and athletic ability to play tackle at the next level was up for debate. All week though he struggled with NFL caliber speed and quickness, played with heavy feet, and looked overmatched at times. He definitely will have to play guard at the next level, and that knocks his stock down. Though he is the second best guard in the draft, he is light years behind Iupati for number 1.

4

Ciron Black- OT L.S.U

Ciron Blacks struggles are almost identical to Ducasse. Highly touted tackle coming into the season, but throughout the season he struggled with speed, and did not look athletic enough to play Left Tackle in the Pros, those same issues were on display at the Senior Bowl, he just does not have the athletic ability and quickness to play tackle at the next level, as he was easily beaten around the outside, could not keep up with the speed rushers the north had. At 6-5 322, his future is surely at guard in the NFL

5

Danario Alexander- WR Missouri

6 foot 5 receiver Danario Alexander was coming off a spectacular senior season in which he caught 113 balls, 14 touchdowns, and almost 2 Thousand yards, but he struggled at the Senior Bowl. He had trouble getting separation and getting open, displayed his below average speed, and sloppy route running. He still has excellent hands and the ability to go up and get the ball, but whether he has the speed, and quickness to be a high level receiver in the pros is a serious question.
