Wednesdays Watchers

This weeks edition of the Watchers gives you an update as to helped their draft stock out the most, and who did the most damage after the very important N.F.L Combine

1

Bruce Campbell- OT Maryland

The clear star of the combine flashed his athleticism running a 4.84 in the 40, putting up 34 bench reps at 225 pounds, measured out with a very impressive at 36 1/4 longest of any other tackle, all at a whopping 6-7 315, (Cue the Al Davis Jokes). Campbell is a very "raw" prospect, only starting for a year and a half in college, and playing very inconsistent at times. The upside for this guy though is just so tremendous, it is doubtful he will fall out of the top-10, with so many offensive line needy teams (and Oakland picks at 8).

2

Ryan Mathews- RB Fresno State

The top tier of the running back position is pretty wide open, and Ryan Matthews really took advantage of that running a 4.4, 40 yard dash, and measuring in at a very good 5-11 5/8. With Jonathan Dwyer vacating his spot in the first round with a poor performance, and Jahvid Best and C.J Spiller with real questions, Matthews put himself in contention to be the number 1 running back off the board. He is the most complete running back in the draft, has breakaway speed, ability to run up the middle, and break tackles. A likely first round pick now.

3

Chris Cook- CB Virginia

A little bit under the radar here, Chris Cook had an excellent performance at the Senior Bowl and followed that up with an even more impressive Combine. He is one of the biggest corners in the draft at 6-2 212, but ran a blazing 4.46 40 time, tied for the best among corners. Arguably has had the best "offseason" of any player, has shot up draft boards from being a relative unknown to putting himself into the second tier of corners to come off the board in the 2nd to 3rd round range.

4

Russell Okung- OT Oklahoma State

Russell Okung established himself as the clear cut number 1 tackle in the draft this year with a dominant performance at the combine. He put up 38 reps on the bench press, most of any other tackle, 2nd longest arm measurement at 36 inches, and by all accounts was very impressive in his interviews with scouts and GM's. He is a top-5 lock, and will be the first left tackle to come off the board.

5

Darrell Stuckey- Safety Kansas

Stuckey is another prospect that is under the radar to most, but really established himself in that second tier of safeties with an excellent 40 time, 4.48, behind only Eric Berry and Taylor Mays at the safety position. Looked very smooth and quick in all his drills, showed the fluid hips and explosion necessary for a safety at the next level.

1

Dan LeFevour- QB Central Michigan

LeFevour hurt his stock before he even showed up to the combine by deciding not to throw at all despite not being injured. In a draft where the QB position is remarkably weak behind Bradford and Clausen, LeFevour had a chance to shine as a productive QB from a small school. Especially with all the other QB's deciding not to throw for one reason or another, he had a chance to grab the vacant spotlight and show what he can do. It's hard not to fill in the blanks and reason that he is hiding something.

2

Jonathan Dwyer- RB Georgia Tech

As mentioned with Ryan Matthews, the top of the running back class is up for grabs, and Dwyer had a chance to snatch the top spot. Instead he only solidified concerns that he does not have the speed necessary to be a productive N.F.L running back by running only a 4.68 40. Given he is power running back, and excels at running between the tackles, you still need to have some speed, and his poor showing in the 40 yard dash will definitely knock him down draft boards.

3

Greg Hardy- DE Mississippi

Greg Hardy's stock was already on the way down after missing most of his senior season with a wrist injury, it hit rock bottom during the combine. First, he weighed in at 281 pounds, 16 pounds over his listed playing weight. Then proceeded to run a dreadful 4.94 40, and looked very sluggish in drills. The once first round prospect will be lucky to be picked earlier than the 4th round.

4

Mike Williams- WR Syracuse

Mike Williams is undoubtedly a top talent as a wide receiver, but has major concerns about his maturity and character. He was having a great senior campaign, until he stunningly quit the team mid-season. Now this was his chance to give an explanation as to what happened, and why he decided to leave the team. Instead, he was not at all remorseful, laughed off questions about the situation, blamed others for his issues, and was overweight. Williams took a golden opportunity and flushed it down the toilet. Cincinnati will be the only team looking at him earlier than round 4 or 5 now.

5

Perrish Cox- CB Oklahoma State

Behind the clear number 1 Joe Haden, there is a real log jam of corners at the top of tier number 2. Cox had an opportunity to leap up and grab one of those few spots behind Haden, instead he slipped as others gained ground. He ran a slow 4.57 40 time, and did not look smooth in his drills. He looked to be unprepared for the combine, and no longer has a shot to be picked in round 1.
