|Draft Stock:||2nd-4th round; Tier 2 QB|
It's hard to remember many prospects like Zach Mettenberger who have seen such drastic and numerous fluctuations in their draft stock in a short period of time. There is so much to take into account with Mettenberger. There are off field concerns, injury concerns and then on the field there's the uninspiring 2012 version of Mettenberger, then the 2013 version who looked like a completely different person.
I don't view Mettenberger as a prototypical boom-or-bust prospect because I think he's coachable, hard working and trending in the right direction; however, he does need time. We saw Mettenberger take huge strides in 2013 thanks in no small part to the arrival of offensive coordinator and longtime NFL coach Cam Cameron. If Mettenberger can continue to develop at that rate with similar coaching at the next level, I have no doubt he can be an upper echelon starter.
It will be fascinating to see where Mettenberger goes on draft day considering how polarizing he is as a prospect. There are some people who believe he should be a first round pick, and others who think he shouldn't go until day three. If I'm a team like Houston or Oakland and I pass on a QB in the top ten, I think Mettenberger would be a great developmental option in the second or third round.
