As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the Cleveland Browns Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
Cleveland Browns Team Needs
Joe Thomas will go down as one of the best offensive tackles in NFL history but when he retired the Browns had nobody to really fill his shoes. Cleveland tried undrafted free agent Desmond Harrison before settling on former second overall pick Greg Robinson. Without a first round pick the Browns will need to find someone on day two with starting potential.
Cleveland hit gold last year selecting Denzel Ward with the 5th overall pick as he had a near Rookie of the Year season. Opposite of Ward there is a concern as the Browns have gone with veteran Terrence Mitchell. With Steve Wilkins running more zone coverage the Browns can tend to wait till the mid rounds to find the perfect fit.
New Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilks will be looking to build this defense like he had in Carolina which means the Browns will be needing athletic linebackers. Genard Avery likely steps into the starting lineup to replace Jamie Collins but Cleveland could look to add someone on day three to eventually replace Joe Schobert or Christian Kirksey down the road.
After signing Sheldon Richardson and trading for Olivier Vernon the Browns have one of the better defensive lines in the NFL. When you look past the starters there is little depth and without many needs the Browns could look add to the depth with both Trevon Coley and Emmanuel Ogbah both in the last years of their contacts.
For all the steps forward the Browns defense took, they still finished 25th in passing yards given up per game. Improving the pass rush will help, but Browns need to add more talent to their secondary. Jabrill Peppers was shipped off in the Vernon trade which hurts the depth while both Derrick Kindred and Damarious Randall could use some competition.
