As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the Denver Broncos Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
Denver Broncos Team Needs
John Elway has to get this right at some point. Swapping out Case Keenum for Joe Flacco shouldn’t fool anyone into thinking the position is set. The team needs to evaluate and find their quarterback to learn behind Flacco for a year and take over. Look for the Broncos to possible select Drew Lock with their top pick.
Justin Simmons is entrenched as the starting free safety, but the team is still searching for his running mate. Finding dependable players for a defensive backfield that has to go up against Patrick Mahomes twice a season has to be seen as a major need for improvement.
The additions of Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan to the cornerback group that already includes Chris Harris, is a major improvement already. However, youth is needed for depth purposes and to protect themselves in case Harris departs next off season in free agency. The Broncos know they won a super bowl with an aging quarterback before by riding a terrific defense and the best cornerback duo in the league, so look for them to follow this plan again.
All three players currently slotted into starting roles along the defensive line are set to hit free agency after this season. Drafting a player to step into one of those spots would help ease the burden next off season, while offering more interior pressure for the aforementioned reigning MVP.
The resigning of Jeff Heuerman lowers this need but even with him in the fold last season the Broncos haven’t had a consistent threat from the position. Hopes of the draft gamble of Jake Butt have not returned any results, and Troy Fumagalli is still a relative unknown. Finding more competition would give the next young quarterback another weapon at their disposal.
