As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the Green Bay Packers Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
Green Bay Packers Team Needs
The Packers tried to address their tight end situation last off season by bringing in former All-Pro Jimmy Graham, unfortunately Graham’s time as a serviceable pass catcher is done. Graham’s decline leaves the Packers with a big need at the position. With a strong tight end class in this year’s draft the Packers have a great opportunity to find a long-term solution at the position.
Davante Adams has quietly become one of the premier receivers in the NFL while emerging as Aaron Rodgers favorite weapon. After Adams though the Packers lack any real threats. Randall Cobb has been unable to stay on the field due to injuries and is a pending free agent and the rest of their receiving corps is talented but young and unproven. Green Bay is in a good position to find a real compliment to Adams in a deep receiving class in this year’s draft.
Last season Green Bay struggled to field a complimentary inside linebacker next to Blake Martinez. Jake Ryan has been injury prone and is a free agent and last year’s third round pick Oren Burks didn’t standout despite playing in 14 games last year. Adding a rangy linebacker would complete the Packer’s rebuild of their front seven.
Upfront the Packers have two top rate defenders in Kenny Clark and Mike Daniels but could use another talented player to round out their defensive line. Muhammed Wilkerson was a splashy free agent signing last year but suffered a serious ankle injury in week three that ended his season, he is also a pending free agent who’s return is questionable. Even if they were to resign Wilkerson the Packers’ depth along the defensive line is pretty slim and could use an infusion of talent.
Interior Offensive Line
Green Bay has had a lot of success finding talent along the offensive line in the mid to late rounds of the draft and even at the undrafted free agent level. Right tackle Bryan Bulaga is solid player but turns 30 before the season starts and has had issues staying healthy in the past. Upgrading the depth along the line would also be a smart investment.
