As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the Houston Texans Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
Houston Texans Team Needs
The Texans have some young pieces along the offensive line in Julie’n Davenport, Martinas Rankin and Seantrel Henderson but they also gave up an NFL high 62 sacks last year. With Deshaun Watson’s injury history, they cannot afford to ignore the position. Having a first-round pick for the first time in two years should help them target one of the top prospects.
Interior Offensive Line
As big as the need is for offensive tackle, the same could be said for the interior of the offensive line. Houston used a second-round pick on Nick Martin in 2017 while adding some mid-tier free agents to no success. If the Texans cannot get a top tackle in round one, they could turn to either Erik McCoy or Garrett Bradbury.
Signing Bradley Roby away from Denver was a good addition but the Texans should not stand pat. Jonathan Joseph is slowing down and the Texans have no depth. Cover corners usually go high, but the Texans should be able to find someone in the middle rounds as an eventual starter.
With DeAndre Hopkins the Texans have a true number one receiver while Will Fuller gives them an elite deep threat. The problem is Fuller has yet to play a full season. Houston traded for Demaryius Thomas last year, but he didn’t pan out. To take the pressure off of Hopkins and help out Watson the Texans could add both an outside receiver and a tight end.
Houston has learned what the Miami Dolphins already knew in that Lamar Miller cannot carry a full workload. D’Onta Foreman was drafted to eventually be the lead back but has been a big question mark so far. Not a huge need, the Texans could look for an upside pick in the later rounds.
