As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the Jacksonville Jaguars Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
Jacksonville Jaguars Team Needs
Being a run-oriented team that wants to control the clock with Leonard Fournette pounding between the tackles. Even before they cut Jermey Parnell there was a need to upgrade at the position. Jacksonville has options with the 7th pick where they could take Jawan Taylor or Jonah Williams but could also wait till the second round and take somebody like Kaleb McGary.
With the emphasis on running the ball it makes sense that the Jaguars have accumulated downfield speed threats which are great when you are running the ball well and can take shots off of play action. The problem arises when they have to throw the Jaguars have struggled to get open and could use a big jump ball receiver to help move the chains.
A tight end can be a quarterback’s best friend controlling the middle of the field and being a security blanket. Jacksonville has lacked a tight end for years while Nick Foles and offensive coordinator John DeFillippo had two good ones in Philadelphia. Taking a tight end with the seventh pick is a bit rich where a prospect like Dawson Knox or Kaden Smith in round three are more realistic.
Even with the signing of Nick Foles the Jaguars should not be done at quarterback as Foles hasn’t shown the ability to have success outside of the Eagles system. Drafting a quarterback to groom behind Foles would not only be a nice safety blanket as a backup but also if Foles doesn’t live up to his huge contract.
Edge defender doesn’t seem like a need because of all the talent they have on their defensive line. While they are talented they lack true edge rushers after they traded away Dante Fowler as Calais Campbell often slides inside. Finding a mid-round pick could be an option but don’t count one out at seven if one of the top guys fall.
