As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the Los Angeles Chargers Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
Los Angeles Chargers Team Needs
The team has put multiple high draft picks into rebuilding the offensive line, to still have numerous question marks. Depending on Forrest Lamp’s availability and Dan Feeney’s play the Chargers could be looking to upgrade both guards spots this offseason. I wouldn’t be shocked to see multiple players added to compete for depth both inside and outside, where Russell Okung is nearing the end of his career.
At some point Philip Rivers will retire, and while the team added Tyrod Taylor as an expensive backup this offseason, they need to look to the future. Cardale Jones is on the roster but to this point I don’t think anyone is expecting him to become anything more than a spot starter and backup.
Finding a running mate for Casey Heyward, to replace the oft-injured and now former Charger, Jason Verrett, and push Desmond King has to be a top priority for a defense that got torched in the playoffs. This year’s draft class offers a number of options for quality depth with future starter potential in the middle rounds.
With only Brandon Mebane, Ty McGill and Justin Jones under contract the position is looking pretty bleak. The team most likely will bring back one of their departing defensive tackles but youth was needed anyways. Finding an interior pass rush to go along with Nick Bosa and Melvin Ingram would be a sure-fire way to start to slow down the offenses in the AFC.
Keenan Allen is one of the most dangerous receivers when healthy. While he has remained healthy and played in all sixteen games in back to back years, adding another piece to join Mike Williams as the future would be a welcome addition to a team that has to score, and score a lot of win games.
