As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the New Orleans Saints Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
New Orleans Saints Team Needs
On the search for a threat from the tight end position since the trade of Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks four years ago. They have gotten by with recently retired Ben Watson and Josh Hill for the most part, but the thought of adding a weapon to an already explosive offense is too much to pass up. With such a deep tight end class the Saints can grab a late round prospect to pair with Hill for an intriguing camp battle.
Swapping Latavius Murray into Mark Ingram’s role is easier said than done. While the pair of Murray and Alvin Kamara are sure to be more than adequate, given the latter’s ability, an addition from the draft would be a smart choice to continue to give Drew Brees a final chance at another ring.
Offensive Line Depth
After losing Max Unger to retirement, the Saints signed Nick Easton to take over the center position to shore up a solid front five. But behind those starters the team should look to add interior depth and a swing tackle to prevent a collapse if one of their linemen were to go down with an injury.
Adding Eli Apple through trade last season proved to be a wise decision. Pairing him with former rookie of the year Marshon Lattimore gave the Saints a dynamic one-two punch on the outside. However, the team needs to continue to add pieces to compete for the third cornerback spot and quality depth beyond that.
The team employs one of the best young wide receivers in the NFL in Michael Thomas but lacks much gusto beyond that. Tre’Quan Smith had his moments but failed to find any consistency. Adding another receiver in that latter rounds to compete with Smith would do wonders for the unit.
