As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the New York Jets Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
New York Jets Team Needs
Under Todd Bowles there wasn’t much of a need for true edge pass rushers with their attacking defense. Gregg Williams takes over and you have to wonder if they’ll stick with the 3-4 base defense or move to the 4-3 Williams has always ran. Regardless they’ll have a shot at one of the elite pass rushers with the 3rd pick.
After adding Le’Veon Bell in free agency the Jets need to build up their offense line, so he has lanes to run through. Right tackle Brandon Shell would be better served as a backup which could prompt the Jets to target someone on day two of the draft. Yodny Cajuste has experience on both sides and could eventually replace Kelvin Beachum.
Sam Darnold showed a lot of promise during his rookie year but will need some weapons around him. Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder and Quincy Enuwa are all average, but nobody is really considered to be a number one receiver. It may be tempting to take DK Metcalf with the third pick but instead of reaching the Jets can take some like N’Keal Harry or Hakeem Butler in the second.
Trading for Kelechi Osemele was huge win for the Jets as it gives them a premier offensive lineman. The right side it’s another story as both guard and tackle need an upgrade. There are still some quality guards still available that would be worth bringing in.
Spencer Long was supposed to be a good free agent signing for the Jets giving them their new center. Instead he struggled and is gone. Jonotthan Harrison is penciled in as the starter but he was cast off by the Colts before their offensive line got good. If the Jets can add a veteran right guard that could allow them to draft a center on day two.
