As Free Agency has began to slow down it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2019 NFL Draft. Listed below are the San Francisco 49ers Team Needs as they head into the 2019 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
San Francisco 49ers Team Needs
The addition of Richard Sherman was a good signing as it brought some stability while the signing of former Charger Jason Verrett brings some of the same hope. Both players are only temporary fixes who were let go by their former teams because of injury concerns. San Francisco needs to find young press man corners that they can look to build this secondary around.
Whether it is Marquise Goodwin, Dante Pettis or the newly added Jordan Matthews the 49ers have some good pieces to their receiving group but really lack that number one receiver that they can count on to make plays. Wherever Kyle Shanahan has gone he has featured an elite and after missing out on acquiring Odell Beckham Jr. the 49ers could look for one in the draft.
As the 49ers continue to build up their Seattle Style Cover 3 defense they could really use their version of Earl Thomas who played centerfield controlling the middle of the defense. There isn’t an elite safety in this year’s class but Deionte Thompson and Nesir Adderley are two safeties that may be available in the second round who could fill that role.
San Francisco filled a huge need by trading for Dee Ford giving the 49ers a true edge pass rusher they’ve lacked for years. Just because San Francisco now has Ford that doesn’t mean the unit is a strength. Adding either Ohio State’s Nick Bosa or Kentucky’s Josh Allen with the second overall pick could make their pass rush elite.
An abundance of draft capital has been used over the last several years on the defensive line, but the 49ers are still missing a run stuffing nose tackle. Earl Mitchell has filled that role, but he is a free agent and isn’t likely back. With tackle not being a pressing need they can wait till the last day of the draft.
