With the end of the 2019 Regular season it is the perfect time to take a look at the team needs for each team as we get closer to the 2020 NFL Draft. Listed below are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Team Needs as they head into the 2020 NFL Draft listed in order of importance.
Under new head coach Bruce Arians the Bucs took a step forward in 2019. With a strong off season they could be a dark horse contender next season. What does that look like? Here are a few areas they could look to address come draft day.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Team Needs
Jameis Winston was among the most hit quarterbacks in the NFL last year. As a result he played the last month of the season with a broken thumb. If you can’t protect the quarterback, then the Arians down field passing offense just won’t work. The Bucs need a guy who can protect the edge better in 2020.
Speaking of Jameis Winston, there is question to his long term future in Tampa Bay. He turns the ball over too much and even worse he hasn’t been learning from his mistakes. He’ll probably be the starter next season, because when he’s not turning the ball over he’s actually quite good, but the Bucs would be smart to hedge their bets with a developmental backup.
The Bucs have expressed interest in bringing Ndamukong Suh back next year, but they need to think about a long term running mate next to Vita Vea on the defensive line. The Bucs love the big power linemen to control the trenches to let their pass rushers run free on their aggressive 3-4 system, so expect that to be a target come draft day.
Both Shaquille Barrett and Jason Pierre Paul are free agents and even if both are brought back then there isn’t much depth behind them. Another pass rusher can help take this defense from good to great in 2020 and improve their developing pass defense.
The Bucs really struggled to match up with tight ends last year and lack that single high cover man on the back end. Justin Evans has shown flashes, but he hasn’t been healthy in two years and it seems like he’s far from a sure thing.
