December 16 Bowl Game Scouting Guide

Troy Trojans vs North Texas Mean Green
1:00 CST on ESPN

Troy Prospects
QB Brandon Silvers
RB Jordan Chunn
LT Steven Rowzee

North Texas Prospects
S Kishawn McClain
K Trevor Moore

After rushing for 191 yard against an LSU, it’s clear that Troy RB Jordan Chunn is a talented runner. Chunn is a powerful downhill runner whose numbers had declined this past year because of injuries and prevented him from building off a strong junior campaign. North Texas doesn’t produce a lot of draft prospects and hasn’t had anyone drafted since 2004. Their top two prospects are FS Kishawn McClain and K Trevor Moore who are fighting to be late round flyer picks. McClain lead the Mean Green in interceptions this year with 5 while Moore has a kicking percentage above 90%

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers vs Georgia State Panthers
2:30 CST on CBSSN

Western Kentucky Prospects
QB Mike White
WR Narcarius Fant
DE Derik Overstreet
DT Chris Johnson
CB Joe Brown

Georgia State Prospects
RB Glenn Smith
CB Chandon Sullivan

The headliner in this game is Western Kentucky QB Mike White (#5 QB) who doesn’t get mentioned with the top quarterback prospects but you could hear more about come draft time. White’s production dropped this past year after losing his top WR (Taywan Taylor), LT (Forrest Lamp) and head coach (Jeff Brohm). White’s top weapon is WR Narcarius Fant who’s really stepped up at the end of the season. Fant will likely be covered by the Panthers best prospect in CB Chandon Sullivan who’s earned a Senior Bowl invitation. Sullivan is likely a day three pick now but a strong bowl game and Senior Bowl could have him move up in a cornerback group that is lacking depth.

Boise State Broncos vs Oregon Ducks
3:30 CST on ABC

Boise State Prospects
WR Cedrick Wilson
TE Jake Roh
RT Archie Lewis
C Mason Hampton

Oregon Prospects
RB Royce Freeman
WR Charles Nelson
LT Tyrell Crosby (#6 OT)
DE Henry Mondeaux
CB Arrion Springs
S Tyree Robinson

While Oregon QB Justin Herbert is not draft eligible, this will be a great opportunity to see one of the top young quarterbacks in college football and get a glimpse ahead to a player most are considering to be a potential first round draft pick. Having Herbert playing really opens up the running game and allows RB Royce Freeman lighter boxes and more one on one opportunities. Freeman is a straight line runner who can use his speed to get to the second level and make his size tougher for linebackers to bring down. For Boise State the prospect to watch is WR Cedrick Wilson who is an explosive downfield threat that doubles as a return man. Wilson’s 17.7 yards per catch were second best in the Mountain West and matching up against Arrion Springs he could be looking to make a mark to help improve his draft stock.

Marshall Thundering Herd vs Colorado State Rams
4:30 CST on ESPN

Marshall Prospects
TE Ryan Yurachek

Colorado State Prospects
QB Nick Stevens
WR Michael Gallup
LG Trae Moxley
C Jake Bennett

Colorado State WR Michael Gallup (#12 WR) is the player to watch in this game as he is the only sure fire draft pick and could easily go on day 2 of the draft. Despite being only 6’1 Gallup plays much bigger than his height using his body to shield defenders and the ability to win with the ball in the air. He is a bit stiff in his movements but can get to top speed quickly. Marshall’s prospect to watch is their tight end Ryan Yuracheck who is a move tight end that 9 touchdowns on the season along with 14 the previous two years.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs Arkansas State Red Wolves
8:00 CST on ESPN

Middle Tennessee Prospects
DE Walter Brady
CB Michael Minter

Arkansas State Prospects
TE Blake Mack
DE Ja’Von Rolland-Jones
DT Dee Liner

This game takes a major hit NFL Draft wise without a chance to see Middle Tennessee’s star receiver Richie James (#7 WR) who was lost for the season with a broken collarbone. That doesn’t mean there isn’t talent on the field as Arkansas State brings in one of the most underrated pass rushers in the nation. Ja’Von Rolland-Jones is back to back Sun Belt player of the year and brings with him 42 career sacks using strong quick hands to beat defenders and wreak havoc in the backfield. This is likely the first time many people have seen Rolland-Jones play.
