December 23rd Bowls NFL Draft Prospects Preview

Texas Tech Red Raiders vs South Florida Bulls
11:00 CST on ESPN

Texas Tech Prospects
WR Dylan Cantrell
WR Cameron Batson
WR Derrick Willies

South Florida Prospects
QB Quinton Flowers
RB D’Ernest Johnson
WR Marquez Valdes-Scanting
C Cameron Ruff
DT Deadrin Senat
DT Bruce Hector
MLB Auggie Sanchez
CB Deatrick Nichols

It should be no surprise that the Red Raiders top prospects are all at receiver with Cantrell, Batson and Willies at senior and true junior Keke Coutee. Dylan Cantrell is the best of the group as he uses his 6’3 220lb frame to shield off defenders and move the chains. Complimenting him is Cameron Batson who is much smaller but provides explosive speed and is also a quality kick returner. Looking to slow down this Texas Tech group of receivers is cornerback Deatrick Nichols who has started the past three years and ranked second in the AAC in passes defended. The South Florida offense goes through quarterback Quinton Flowers who does most of his damage with his legs, but has the arm to make throws in the NFL. Flowers top target is Marquez Valdes-Scanting who transferred from NC State and has given Flowers a big threat downfield.

San Diego State Aztecs vs Army Black Knights
2
:30 CST on ESPN

San Diego State Prospects
RB Rashaad Penny
FB Nick Bawden
WR Mikah Holder
TE David Wells
CB Kameron Kelly

As it is with most service academies Army doesn’t bring in any NFL Draft prospects but that doesn’t take away from the season the Black Knights have had. Army will have their hands full with the Aztec offense that features talented RB Rashaad Penny (#10 RB). Penny is a compact back that has good acceleration and the ability to make quick cuts to find creases and reel of big runs. A big part of Penny’s success has been his fullback Nick Bawden who Penny runs primarily behind and TE David Wells who provides a good blocker on the edge. While there is talent on this San Diego State team, all eyes will be on Penny.

Appalachian State Mountaineers vs Toledo Rockets
6
:00 CST on ESPN

Appalachian State Prospects
QB Taylor Lamb
RG Colby Gossett
RT Beau Nunn
ILB Eric Boggs
OLB Devan Stringer

Toledo Prospects
QB Logan Woodside
RB Terry Swanson
LT Elijah Nkanseh
WLB Ja’Wuan Woodley

The matchup between Sun Belt and MAC schools should produce a fun back and forth game as both of these team’s offenses are no strangers to success. As it relates to NFL Draft prospects both teams have some solid Day 3 talent on their rosters. App State’s RG Colby Gossett is a name that not a lot of people may know about but he is a two time All Sun Belt recipient and was graded by Pro Football Focus as the top run blocking guard during his junior year. At 6’6 315lbs he has the size needed to have success in the league. For Toledo the prospect to watch is their QB Logan Woodside. Lacking great size Woodside is an above average athlete that is an accurate thrower with solid touch. He lacks the arm strength and size to really wow talent evaluators but could be someone whose taken on the third day and becomes a quality backup in the league.
