Devin White NFL Draft Profile

Height: 6’1 Weight: 240 School: LSU

Strengths

  • Outstanding athlete. Has top end game speed and has legitimate sideline to sideline range.
  • Possesses good change of direction skills. Allows him to weave through traffic to find ball carriers.
  • Explosive hitter who can blow up running backs. When not laying the lumber he is a consistent, sure tackler.
  • Is well suited physically for playing in coverage. Can run with most receivers and can get deep in zone coverage quickly.
  • Effective blitzer thanks to his athleticism and ability to weave through traffic seamlessly.
  • At times shows good ability to get off blocks and make plays.

Concerns

  • Mental processing is concerning at times. Relies too much on his physical abilities instead of reads.
  • Can be overaggressive. Will bite on fakes and motions. At times over pursues and carries himself out of plays.
  • Struggles with play action from time to time and reacts to heavily to the run fakes.
  • Inconsistent at getting off blocks. At times can get pushed around by offensive linemen.
  • Motor can run hot and cold.

Summary

Physically Devin White checks all the boxes. Sporting a stout frame, the speed and athleticism for days, coverage ability and a knack for being around the ball he is the kind of player who can start immediately and boost an entire defensive unit. That said his processing is a real issue and is the reason he isn’t rated as highly as recent top linebackers coming out such as Roquan Smith and Reuben Foster. These issues are fixable with good coaching and further game experience.

Projection

White should be a day one starter for whomever drafts him and could have an affect similar to that of Darius Leonard and Leighton Vander Esch had on their respective teams. He has perennial Pro Bowl potential if he can fix some of his technical deficiencies.
