With an already talented roster the Vikings only got stronger with the additions of quarterback Kirk Cousins and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson. Now with the 2018 NFL Draft just around the corner, here is a look at the Minnesota Vikings Team Needs heading into the draft.
Minnesota Vikings Team Needs
Improvement at the offensive guard spot should come from added depth from the draft. Look for the Vikings to shore up their offensive line to protect their big money free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins and give their young stud running back Dalvin Cook room to run.
Finding a complement to Kyle Rudolph, who can step in when the aforementioned misses time due to injury, would be a major coup for a team looking for more weapons for Cousins.
The starting spots are set with Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes but additional depth is needed to strengthen the cornerback unit. Look for mid to late round pieces added along with secondary free agents.
Added depth behind starters Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen are needed for a team who in theory brought Cousins in to throw the ball and do it a bunch. The more weapons they can give their new signal caller the better. Look for mid round guys like Deon Cain and DaeSean Hamilton to be on their radar.
Harrison Smith has been one of the top safeties in the league since he stepped on the field in 2012. Unfortunately, the Vikings have yet to give him a solid partner to help him out. Targeting a prospect like Quin Blanding on day three would give the Vikings a true box safety while allowing Smith to roam the field doing what he does best.
Last offseason the Vikings brought in Riley Rieff and Mike Remmers to fortify a line in need of an overhaul. Now they need to add depth behind their two starters and set themselves up for the near future to keep what become a very good offense humming going forward.
Depth and competition at the weak side linebacker spot needs to be addressed to keep one of the top defenses at their current level. The Vikings will look to add an early day three options much like they did last year with Ben Gedeon in round four.
